I know you have touched on this in past but I want to bring it up again.

I am interested in functionality where users can create arbitrary sub-domains such as userX.mydomain.com (wild card sub-domains--where "userX" is the user-generated portion) on the fly.

I know we can now administer multiple pre-determined sub domains but is there any way to make this automated and self-directed for the users? Thanks for all your help.

I was thinking about making this manually, because I don't expect more than a user registration at a day, but programatically better!

So, I second the proposition.
This is something we support on the backend, but is currently disabled in the UI. We'll work on exposing this in the web UI.

If you need this ASAP, please send a request for a wildcard sub-domain alias to beta@stax.net, along with your appID and the exact wildcard you want and we can set this up on the backend for you.
Are wild card sub-domains now a standard feature or do we have to make another request to enable it on Stax?
It's not a standard feature for unpaid accounts, but you can make request for it. Please send your fully-qualified app ID and the wildcard you want to use to support@stax.net.
